00:00:00:
00:00:02: I survived.
00:00:04: You made it to Singapore and we're back with What's Next?
00:00:07: Audio only today but...
00:00:09: We had a small break,
00:00:10: yeah!
00:00:12: Well that was the number one DMI guard of people like when is what next coming back whenever we wanted to come back.
00:00:19: That's the nice thing about What'sNext.
00:00:20: you never know what's next And WHEN NEXT?
00:00:24: We did not really know what's next.
00:00:26: Sometimes we tried to make an appointment multiple times, sometimes...we didn't feel it!
00:00:32: Sometimes we were like let's have a secret beer instead of recording?
00:00:38: Sometimes we went back and forth ...and then your schedule was a little bit different than mine in between the breaks.
00:00:45: but now we are back because I said we need to talk about what happened the last fifty two hours mainly.
00:00:56: That's my main concern.
00:00:58: so we are in Singapore.
00:01:01: our last race was in Malaysia, in Sepang on Sunday.
00:01:09: you had a shorter race
00:01:13: yes
00:01:14: and then you jumped on your bike.
00:01:16: yeah.
00:01:17: So I think it could have been tiff-tiff idea this thing.
00:01:23: I'm not sure, it was either my idea or Tiff's...I don't know.
00:01:26: anyway i committed to the The Idea which was to write from Seppang To Singapore Grand Prix.
00:01:36: So..i once saw a German guy who ran From game-to-game at like European Championship.
00:01:44: Um.... I mean is that possible to do other distances?
00:01:54: It's arguably the owner.
00:01:56: You could do Monaco Barcelona next year, just walk me through it.
00:02:01: So Cipang Malaysia came on the radar and all of a sudden we realized or you realize how many kilometers?
00:02:11: I didn't take direct route.
00:02:13: The route less traveled with my gravel bike was the new Canyon Grail CFR.
00:02:20: It's pretty sick, it is right over there.
00:02:23: I mean that bag
00:02:25: really...
00:02:26: The...
00:02:27: It so good!
00:02:28: So yeah the idea came about.
00:02:31: i committed to it..I actually then mentioned a canyon and they were very kind to support this journey?
00:02:37: Its something different ..i don't think any driver has ever commuted from race-to-race with their bike.
00:02:43: You took the bike?
00:02:44: Yeah
00:02:45: Some other took the private jet.
00:02:48: Other people took A bus, there were some mechanics that took a bus.
00:02:53: I saw it.
00:02:54: You took your bike and you commit like you went from track to track.
00:02:59: Can let me know how many miles or how many kilometers?
00:03:02: You did in the last three days?
00:03:04: actually didn't calculate yet But it's something between four hundred and forty fifty
00:03:09: In three days Four
00:03:11: days total.
00:03:12: so it was well-structured Well planned had some local knowledge on the routes.
00:03:16: How did that happen?
00:03:18: So Canyon they obviously no riders all around the world, so they had two local gravel riders who were based in Malaysia and They know pretty much all the roads In Malaysia.
00:03:30: So they'll help me with the planning of the route.
00:03:32: that helped Me to figure out where I should stay overnight And i did have a support car along The way okay?
00:03:40: There was also That kind of security off that if something happens i'm not going To be you know there by myself.
00:03:47: yeah We plan it well.
00:03:50: And of course, you know that some people might think but are you gonna be crazy?
00:03:57: Are we going to be tired for the whole weekend because...
00:03:59: Because its a triple header and people say It's already quite exhausting hot races.
00:04:07: So what is your answer today?
00:04:08: so the answers as well planned while structured actually distances they're not far from where I would normally write.
00:04:15: So your
00:04:17: daily normal rides are a hundred and twenty or something, so four days.
00:04:21: That is here!
00:04:23: Regular, daily...
00:04:25: The ride I started Sunday actually in the dark after the race.
00:04:29: it was just like bit more than fifty k on Sunday And that's almost like a recovered ride you know?
00:04:34: I rode very easy into the night.
00:04:38: Then Monday Tuesday were both bigger days because i knew if do Bigger Days Monday Tuesday will be able to recover easily for the weekend And then Wednesday, last day again.
00:04:48: Short day easy day.
00:04:48: one and a half hours forty kilometers.
00:04:51: That's today?
00:04:52: Yeah which I finished an hour ago.
00:04:55: Will there be some sort of coverage over it?
00:04:57: like because
00:04:58: oh yeah
00:04:59: Like you filmed the ISR film team.
00:05:01: so Canyon filmed that.
00:05:02: Yes So i don't want to talk too much about it but yes Canyon was present.
00:05:07: There is also filming guy.
00:05:08: They will pretty much all of their journey coming out eventually.
00:05:13: Okay You can see what happened.
00:05:15: Mini
00:05:16: documentary.
00:05:18: Because I saw a lot of stuff in my Insta feed, that's how the Insta algorithm works these days.
00:05:25: and first thing was when i was at the airport because i flew here on Sunday night as well.
00:05:32: um...I already saw videos of you moving your bike ninety degrees up trying to manage traffic for people who returned from the Grand Prix and you were already on your way to the next Grand Prix.
00:05:46: How did it start off on Sunday night?
00:05:48: Was a mayhem with the traffic?
00:05:50: I mean, in first five kilometers was Mayhem.
00:05:55: Yeah You know there's like two-way road but then some people decided make one-way route And suddenly they would still want to go that other way.
00:06:04: It is Mayhem But honestly after Did you
00:06:11: have to take selfies while
00:06:13: maneuvering?
00:06:14: Yeah, a couple.
00:06:15: What did the other riders do like the Malaysian cyclist gravel riders what they say?
00:06:22: because they must've been okay.
00:06:25: we now have this mission To bring Valtteri into Singapore and then it starts.
00:06:30: let's not totally easy.
00:06:34: It does be of surprise.
00:06:36: I knew that was going.
00:06:38: I think some people didn't quite expect that, but after that section we actually went to this forest section in the kind of palm tree plantations.
00:06:49: In the dark.
00:06:50: so there's the introduction to the ride with my little light... ...in- in the forest and honestly the noises i was hearing The noise off the jungle at night when it's just you're on your bike and a little bike light.
00:07:05: It is exciting almost a bit stressful.
00:07:09: Do you remember me doing that New Year's run in Australia?
00:07:14: That was dark and when the kangaroos showed up, they had noise.
00:07:19: I was constantly insanely scared.
00:07:21: so... And there were multiple stories of multiple snakes in the paddock around stands, every photographer got briefed.
00:07:35: Be very careful!
00:07:36: There was not an F-one race for nine years so there is a fair amount of cobras.
00:07:42: if you get bitten and have ninety minutes to stay alive then your have to have anti venom first of all.
00:07:50: did u carry antivenom?
00:07:57: It's a bar bag, right?
00:07:59: Yeah.
00:08:00: No actually I did not have anti-venom but because there was the support vehicle always let say maximum would be fifteen minutes away.
00:08:08: okay that goes my bailout.
00:08:10: But i didn't see one cobra at night.
00:08:14: Was it standing up?
00:08:15: and...was is saying something
00:08:17: just like yeah..but i managed to maneuver.
00:08:22: And then yesterday i saw one python Like a big fat python just crossing the road right in front of me.
00:08:28: So I almost catched it tail.
00:08:30: Did your bunny hopped?
00:08:31: No, I didn't have to but i did bunnyhop A bit lizard like one meter long lizard.
00:08:36: It
00:08:37: was towards end of day One and then yeah You know you're getting a little bit tired And its getting dark.
00:08:44: I thought there were such The big branch Of tree on this gravel road.
00:08:48: When I got To like one metre of it I realized Its moving.
00:08:52: So
00:08:53: it was this lizard, so I had no other chance than just a bunny hop over the lizard.
00:08:58: that put my heart rate up.
00:08:59: Then only one aggressive dog chasing me...
00:09:03: Didn't bite you hopefully?
00:09:05: No!
00:09:05: I out sprinted at him
00:09:07: but he
00:09:07: was a big sprint and i got blocked by some cows also lots of cows Some of those water buffaloes as
00:09:15: well..I saw videos of them And like why did you ride so much in the dark?
00:09:22: Because I think, i thought it's going to be more exciting.
00:09:26: And temperature you know?
00:09:27: I started normally between two and three p.m so the first two hours were the hardest because of the heat.
00:09:32: then he starts to cool down You get the sunset... ...and then he ride a couple of hours into dark.
00:09:38: but only thing was yeah those single tracks in The Forest In The Dark.
00:09:42: that was the adventures bit.
00:09:45: That-I'm glad I experienced It.
00:09:47: But Yeah..it is something
00:09:51: Its different.
00:09:52: like I was with Kimmy and he went to Splash Mania, which is a water park where you can put on slides.
00:10:01: You decide to go in the jungle and ride your gravel.
00:10:04: Can one gravel through dark forests and bunny hop cobras?
00:10:11: Different thing same but different.
00:10:12: I'm so happy i did it!
00:10:14: And now its Wednesday today.
00:10:18: for me It's like a recovery right tomorrow Again, just the easy day.
00:10:22: Either rest there or easy spin Or a bit of gym.
00:10:25: and then you know I know my body pretty well And now i feel good.
00:10:30: So by that time it comes friday.
00:10:33: Physiologically im gonna be getting this super compensation By Friday.
00:10:39: Im going to feel like a super human When i recover well from these with good nutrition and hydration.
00:10:44: Also the races in The Evening.
00:10:46: I saw a couple of reels that analyzed this, they all looked at your Strava data and your Garmin data.
00:10:52: like people work with Wahoo Data mainly correct Wahooligan data That records your stride And everything They saw down on the road.
00:11:11: you were never Out of zone one or two, I think it was not physically in like a long distance.
00:11:19: Like a marathon or half-marathon to runners.
00:11:22: It really Was all just recovery.
00:11:25: riding so down the road as crazy As its sounds too cycle from Sunday and i have To give you pretty sick that he started sunday night.
00:11:40: Like, did you arrive on track today?
00:11:44: So you cycled the last bit of the track in Singapore.
00:11:48: It was that bit close but I was next to the track wall at the fence
00:11:54: and it's kind of interesting because cycling is weird as now looked at pictures when i was first here ten years ago on a mountain bike and we cycled around the track, because that's how he came back in the hotel.
00:12:16: So you probably also take your bike to track at short distance but it is way easier than anything else.
00:12:22: so... You're just real cyclist!
00:12:27: And nothing against Nico Rosberg But you are a real cyclista.
00:12:34: I was jealous of this adventure.
00:12:38: I constantly was also a bit afraid, let's say.
00:12:45: They were checking on
00:12:45: me?
00:12:46: Yeah yeah!
00:12:46: I was checking alot and you're way more than i normally do then just to see in the amount of like where your wear was.
00:12:54: these single track jungle routes off anywhere that really... I'm glad you're here now.
00:13:04: You are back to civilization and also back to recovery, And i agree that this is a pretty good story... I
00:13:16: am so happy I did it!
00:13:18: That's what we made for you.
00:13:19: I am in one piece actually feeling very good.
00:13:24: How was everything else in life?
00:13:27: Everything else great, racing yeah.. We know its been challenging year Yeah.
00:13:32: Nothing more to really say on that, but... That was always gonna be the case.
00:13:36: But apart from that there's a big happening this weekend.
00:13:39: What is it?
00:13:40: Miss Tiffany Cromwell Is racing at The Greville World Championships in Australia And its going to her last race professionally.
00:13:50: You can't be there because you-
00:13:51: I cant' be there!
00:13:52: I'll be there in spirit.
00:13:54: How do yo- Did your figure out like maybe time difference can fly back and forth But to try and find the way, can you cycle there?
00:14:03: I
00:14:03: mean... There's a dire flight Singapore to Adelaide.
00:14:06: Well.. The race is close to Perth but no!
00:14:08: No chance.
00:14:09: So
00:14:10: that's a prank.
00:14:11: Eventually one day i have time.
00:14:14: do those races
00:14:16: Is also the race where you qualified ?
00:14:21: I did qualify for Worlds so could've been there racing World Championships.
00:14:28: We're here for F-One Looking forward to it.
00:14:31: Yeah, absolutely I'm gonna cheer on Sunday.
00:14:34: So what time is when we're here?
00:14:36: It's kind of the same
00:14:37: yeah.
00:14:38: so actually Perth Is same time as he or now also.
00:14:41: yeah, it's a woman's race is on Saturday.
00:14:44: Okay,
00:14:44: so saturday they start ten past ten and i'm sure there's going To be some good coverage
00:14:50: And that would love her to Be successful
00:14:53: me too.
00:14:54: That Would be so sick.
00:14:55: yeah.
00:14:56: to end On a
00:14:57: high note no matter What great career That's
00:15:02: an insane career and that is a big change for you guys.
00:15:07: Then we see what
00:15:08: next?
00:15:09: We got to talk about Tiffany down the road.
00:15:12: I think we should get her into podcast.
00:15:14: Yeah, absolutely!
00:15:16: I had good summer too...I did couple of things..I did my one hundred K raise or race run.
00:15:25: I survived.
00:15:26: i was struggling after sixty five Seventy K a lot.
00:15:31: That's where I was crying on the side of the road and like in my own literally
00:15:35: crying
00:15:36: Yeah, full-on yeah And also like while crying saying this is the end of my willpower sort off.
00:15:43: But then i found some sort of will power again and Followed through.
00:15:49: but it was interesting to see after that like four or five six weeks My.
00:15:55: Sometimes you guys I have an empty social battery, especially you to be fair.
00:16:02: When you had a full paddock media day your social value... You're just dead like you can't- The
00:16:09: only thing that we want is being in the whole room alone and then-
00:16:12: And i understand it but you've been talking fourteen plus hours constantly um ...and i had this same with motivation about that after my because I ran also mainly in zone one and two, ninety-eight percent of it.
00:16:31: So it was never insanely about fueling but did make a fueling mistake at sixty five which once again showed me like... It's just small little slips.
00:16:43: so twenty minutes longer yeah that is okay.
00:16:46: then more food because i was hungry.
00:16:48: What?
00:16:49: Was this the burrito?
00:16:49: Yeah Burrito!
00:16:50: When I saw that I was like... Paul
00:16:54: You saw me go and not good at work.
00:16:56: Yeah, it was super But the test is nice.
00:16:59: in that moment there was also a one liter lemonade ice-cold
00:17:04: One liter.
00:17:04: yeah I want to know.
00:17:05: yeah And I It was very very hot.
00:17:08: um and then but i realized That i still do this out of willpower.
00:17:16: so like that's what drives.
00:17:20: They liked that like around fourteen hours from Paris Clubhouse to Santa Monica up here, but I didn't have any willpower after that.
00:17:31: Like even ice bath or something?
00:17:33: After twenty seconds i was like wow!
00:17:38: When you enter yourself mentally and physically it takes time... But thats impressing me..I've obviously never run a hundred games.
00:17:47: You did an indoor Iron Man.
00:17:52: You can do a lot of stuff if you just decide.
00:17:54: Yeah,
00:17:55: agreed
00:17:55: Can become an F-one driver.
00:17:59: Maybe
00:18:01: That's now hard.
00:18:02: Now this is hard Unless your very rich.
00:18:07: What's happening in the next couple weeks regarding travel between races?
00:18:13: So USA is ahead.
00:18:15: so we always love a good Austin Absolutely!
00:18:19: We should go two stepping right.
00:18:21: Do we go?
00:18:22: I think we need to.
00:18:23: Last year, you didn't enjoy it at all?
00:18:26: Oh yeah,
00:18:28: the cowboy boss.
00:18:31: He was king of the two-step.
00:18:40: Was he mayor or something?
00:18:44: Yeah that's what we called him
00:18:53: but it
00:18:56: wasn't the mayor.
00:19:00: That is his nickname.
00:19:04: We call them the Mayor Of The Place.
00:19:07: It was also interesting because none of people ever realized there were you Like one of rare places where nobody recognized you and I mean probably not possible now anymore being an active driver too, but as a reserve driver it was okay Saturday night to go through two step bar outside of Austin.
00:19:32: Is there
00:19:33: any tech over stuff happening?
00:19:35: Because I really want to see how we'll
00:19:37: be doing tech of us store appearance.
00:19:39: Oh time is still TBC But actually before from here i'm going to Australia.
00:19:49: oh really you're into the paradise.
00:19:51: What are you doing
00:19:52: there?
00:19:54: It was my birthday in August and Tiffany gave me a birthday present.
00:19:59: An outback pup
00:20:05: tour!
00:20:05: That's hard to pronounce, an Outback Pup Tour.
00:20:07: Yeah so In Flinders ranges middle of the country we start... We drive there then we start from there And it is basically with this tiny plane You're hopping different pups in the outback, in the middle of nowhere.
00:20:24: Like this really idyllic random...
00:20:27: Wait wait you're taking a small plane from pub to pub?
00:20:32: Yeah that was Tiffany's birthday gift for me.
00:20:37: it takes two or three days.
00:20:40: What a life!
00:20:42: But yeah more to come again from-from that trip.
00:20:44: I'm sure i'll be documenting some words.
00:20:46: so oh
00:20:47: that sounds very
00:20:48: good.
00:20:48: but then just few days in McLaren.
00:20:49: well enjoy um the springtime over there.
00:20:54: And then it's Austin,
00:20:56: Mexico.
00:20:58: Back to back.
00:20:59: What is happening at the end of this year?
00:21:01: Looks like quite
00:21:02: a lot.
00:21:03: We have planned some trips between races but now we are racing almost every weekend.
00:21:10: So let us see...we will update you all eventually.
00:21:13: Absolutely!
00:21:14: You brought me coffee.
00:21:15: Thankyou very much for Valmos.
00:21:17: Just
00:21:17: over on Malays inside
00:21:19: Is that what you posted this morning?
00:21:21: Yes I saw your post something.
00:21:24: Was it that good?
00:21:24: Like, coffee cart was pretty good in Malaysia as well as Singapore.
00:21:28: Yeah you can really find some good stuff.
00:21:31: so highly recommend this!
00:21:33: Okay
00:21:34: I will do that and my specialist presser because one of the things that are really bad lately is the fact that we lost our motorhomes.
00:21:47: So on the road before i came to you for a pretty good espresso after admit yeah there Cadillac go-to, kudos to Cadillacs Espresso.
00:21:59: The people who ran it quite barista.
00:22:01: but after now we're on the road there's...
00:22:06: They are mostly known as Nespresso machines.
00:22:08: so that's why yeah Aeropress I'm doing every morning myself.
00:22:11: Oh really?
00:22:12: Okay!
00:22:12: Yeah i brought my travel kit with a mobile grinder So we can do proper espresso There.
00:22:19: We should try this.
00:22:20: then Yeah..we
00:22:21: could use these beans And they said like you can sneak in the back.
00:22:27: Oh, your very welcome!
00:22:28: You were at our garage on Sunday long time I was not there and somebody texted me, hey VB is here now what?
00:22:36: Well...
00:22:37: No i bumped into Totoan.
00:22:38: he just came here Just had a chat.
00:22:40: Yeah
00:22:41: okay Very good.
00:22:43: What did we talk about?
00:22:44: Actually little bit about the ride.
